Planting 250 million trees across the country in five years is the election promise of BNP after coming to power. The Prime Minister started implementing another election promise by inaugurating the tree plantation program in Malumghat, Cox’s Bazar.

The government was formed under the leadership of Tarique Rahman on February 17 after BNP achieved an absolute majority in the 13th National Parliament election. Then, pilot projects were launched in various districts by launching the Family Card in Dhaka’s Karail slum, the Krishak Card in Tangail, and the Notun Kuri Sports Program in Sylhet. At the same time, the Prime Minister gave honorariums to religious leaders of various religions, including imams and muezzins, and honorariums and sports cards to athletes.

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change will implement this massive tree plantation program in the next five years to protect the environment and combat the effects of climate change. In the first phase, 15 million saplings will be planted in 149 upazilas of 49 districts. The inaugural ceremony of the tree plantation program was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in the Malumghat Reserve Forest.

The event, chaired by Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintu, was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, State Minister for Hilly Chittagong Affairs Mir Md. Helal Uddin, State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam, and Environment Secretary Raihan Kawsar.
