India’s new High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Dinesh Trivedi, entered the country by road through the Benapole-Petrapole border on Friday morning (June 12). He is currently on his way to Dhaka. This is the first time in the history of the last 55 years of bilateral relations that New Delhi has sent a politician as High Commissioner to Dhaka.
Earlier, in April, former Indian Union Minister and BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi was appointed to this post. He is replacing professional diplomat Prannoy Verma, who recently joined India as Ambassador to Brussels after serving in Bangladesh since September 2022. Dinesh Trivedi’s arrival is expected to add a new dimension to the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
