
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has proposed a complete fare waiver for senior citizens in government-owned public transport, including train travel. He made this proposal while presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 in Parliament today.
He said, “The role of senior citizens in nation-building is immense. Our government is always striving for their welfare. Therefore, I am proposing a complete fare waiver for senior citizens aged 65 years and above in government-owned public transport, including train travel, and a 25 percent reduction in fares for metro rail travel.”
