The main congregation of the holy Eid-ul-Azha was held in a festive atmosphere at the world heritage historic Shatgombuj Mosque in Bagerhat. Former President of Bagerhat District BNP and political leader MA Salam participated in this main congregation along with the general devotees on Thursday (May 28) at 7 am.
In the first congregation of Eid, along with former President of the District BNP MA Salam, MP of Bagerhat-2 constituency Sheikh Manjurul Haque Rahad, Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten, representatives of political and government and private organizations and more than two thousand general devotees participated. The congregation was led by Hafez Maulana Md. Khalid, Khatib of the mosque adjacent to the Hazrat Khanjahan Ali (Rah.) Shrine.
After the prayers, BNP leader MA Salam exchanged Eid greetings with the present devotees and media personnel. At that time, in a quick and powerful speech, he cited the eternal communal harmony of Bagerhat as an example, saying, “Especially in Bagerhat, there is no discrimination between Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians. We coexist with everyone. We have not committed any kind of injustice, oppression, or oppression against Hindus in our Bangladesh.”
Strongly criticizing the current political and social situation in neighboring India, MA Salam said, “The situation that has developed in India after an election a few days ago, nonsense is being said and Muslim brothers are being tortured and oppressed there. We strongly condemn this. We cannot take what is happening in India lightly.”
Demanding an immediate end to this torture and calling on India, he said, “We urgently request that neighboring country India, that state, to stop such injustice, torture, and oppression. Otherwise, the people of Bangladesh—our current Prime Minister is already speaking and will continue to speak in the future—we will not remain silent. God willing, we want a fair trial. If there is no trial, the people of Bangladesh will speak out against it.”
Police, tourist police, RAB and Ansar members maintain strict security measures to ensure the smooth performance of prayers by people from all walks of life, including political leaders, at this world heritage mosque.
Besides, Eid-ul-Azhar congregations were held at 7 am in most of the Jama Masjids of the district town and Upazila Sadar, including Bagerhat Old Court Central Jama Masjid, Alia Madrasa Jama Masjid, Collectorate Jama Masjid, Harinkhana Jama Masjid, Government PC College Jama Masjid, Khanjahan Ali (RA) Shrine-Darha Jama Masjid, Nager Bazar Haji Arif Jama Masjid, Sadak and Janpath Jama Masjid, Sarui Madrasa Jama Masjid.
