The Local Government Minister said that effective and modern water management is very important for the good health of the city dwellers and protection of the environment. To this end, he called upon the concerned to perform their duties with professionalism, accountability and efficiency to ensure the highest quality of service.

Stressing on the need to further increase the use of surface water to provide a sustainable solution to the long-standing water crisis of the capital, Mirza Fakhrul said, “To ensure the best use of the country’s water resources, it is necessary to reduce dependence on groundwater and increase the use of surface water. This will not only protect the balance of the environment, but will also make it easier to conserve water resources for future generations.”

Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan, Dhaka WASA Managing Director Md. Aminul Islam and senior officials of the Gandharvapur Water Treatment Plant were present in the view-sharing meeting held after the inspection. They informed the LGRD Minister about the current progress of the project, future work plans and various initiatives taken to improve the quality of service.

It is worth noting that 500 million liters of water will be supplied to the capital daily from the first phase of the Gandharvapur Water Treatment Plant and an equal amount of water from the second phase.
